How does online mentoring work?

"This journey, which is now coming to an end, has helped me feel a lot more comfortable and confident about my next steps and I’m immensely grateful for the guidance I’ve received!"
Nadia
Mentee

How safe is online mentoring?

Your students’ safety is our top priority, here’s how we keep young people safe on the platform

  • DBS-checked mentors: every mentor has been thoroughly vetted through an enhanced DBS check
  • Expert training: our mentors are trained by Brightside to support young people effectively
  • Smart message filters: our system screens and moderates all messages, with NSPCC-trained coordinators keeping an eye out.

With these safeguards in place, you can rest assured your students will get the most out of their mentoring experience without any worries.

How are video calls safeguarded?

With these measures in place, you can feel confident your students are safe during mentoring

  • Secure platform: all video calls happen on our platform, not through any third party. This way, you always have access to project support and safeguarding channels.
  • Code of conduct: before every call, both mentees and mentors agree to a code of conduct to ensure a safe and respectful conversation
  • Recorded and monitored: we record the calls, spot-check them and keep them on file for a year for added security

Sounds great, how can I sign up my students?

Divleen’s story

I’m now a total nerd about mentoring. I talk about it all the time!

Rano’s story

I knew I wanted to be a lawyer but I was concerned about the workload. My mentor was a working lawyer, so not only gave me advice about my UCAS application and interview questions, but also reassured me that you don’t need to overwork yourself to be successful. He told me about his personal experience of finding balance and saying no, and reminded me how important enjoying your free time is.

Matas’s story

Online mentoring changed my life. I wouldn’t have been successful in getting my law apprenticeship if it hadn’t been for Gareth, my mentor.

Tahmina’s story

If I had to describe my mentor in one word, I’d say amazing. She did the same A Levels as me so she also sent me her notes from Chemistry which were amazing; I’m still using them.

Caitlin’s story

My mentor was lovely; we bonded over our pets and that made me feel more connected to her. She made me feel calmer about applying via UCAS and the interviews process. It was so easy to talk to her because she’s not much older than me.

Khadija’s story

From my perspective, the biggest challenge facing young people today is deciding what career path to go down. Between Year 8 and Year 10 I changed my mine five times; I wanted to be a detective, zoologist, chef, doctor and lawyer.
