Generation worry
51% of young people are worried about their next steps after school or college.
There’s a decision-making crisis: young people don’t know
what to do next and it’s intensifying the skills shortage.
In an open-response survey of over 8,000 young people aged 11-19
These results come from an analysis of our Spotlight survey, in which we ask young people from different schools across England questions about their careers guidance experience and their confidence about their future careers. We surveyed 11,243 young people from 26 schools from Years 7 to 13. This analysis is based on the optional qualitative question “Do you have any concerns or worries about your next steps after school or college? Please tell us about them here.”, and 8,011 young people responded. Of these, 51% provided details about the concerns that they have.

The UK already has one of the worst track records for social mobility in the developed world.
Because of the pandemic, the gap between rich and poor families has widened for the first time in 10 years. If young people don't get immediate help to make decisions about their future careers, this gap will only get wider.
51% of young people is too many
We want young people to take their next steps armed with information and full of confidence.
We want them to enter skilled careers.
To get them on the right path, they need a guide. They need a mentor.
