This September, we’re giving young people a new way of talking to their mentor that’s still really safe.
We know mentees engage more when they can make personal choices; we’ve given them a choice between an app and a web page, choice of mentor and now it’s up to them how they talk to their mentor.
Video mentoring keeps the flexibility of text-based mentoring and means mentees can now organise video calls with the click of a button and get high-quality information, advice and guidance in a way that works for them.
We’ve built this functionality very carefully to make sure it meets our extremely high safeguarding standards. Video calls happen through Zoom integration with our platform rather than via a third party, so mentees and mentors agree to a code of conduct before each call, can access Brightside support throughout and give feedback at the end of the call.

We’ve been piloting the technology all year to ensure a seamless experience for our mentees, mentors and partners, before making it available to everyone we work with.
Mentees across our pilot projects told us:
- They used text chat for first discussions and video for big discussions
- They enjoyed live-editing CVs and applications
- They liked how video allowed for free-flowing discussions
- It helped them to understand more about employers, applications and interviews
Find out how you could partner with Brightside to have a huge impact on the lives of young people with our combination of video and text mentoring.
