Online mentoring provides high quality, personalised careers advice. Developed in partnership with leading employers, our Sector Insight programme connects young people with trained mentors from a wide range of industries. Using examples from personal experience, mentors support and advise young people on how to identify the most suitable career for them, the paths they can take to reach it, and the skills they need to succeed.

Helps young people to understand:
Students are matched with a mentor working in their sector of interest. Together they work through a six-week structured programme of e-learning within Brightside’s secure and moderated online platform.
Our staff send weekly prompts to mentors and mentees, giving them key topics to address. Each week, mentoring pairs will watch videos, read articles and discuss topics tailored to help young people develop the specific knowledge and skills they need for the sector.
We have developed Sector Insight programmes for students in Years 10-13 interested in:
“It was a fantastic project which enabled me to develop my skills and knowledge further. It also gave me a different insight into the finance industry which I may not have accessed if it was not for the project.” Mentee
“I think this is a great project putting young people in touch with real people in industry – giving them support, advice and guidance. The mentoring has also helped me to reflect on decisions made in my career to date.” Mentor
All Brightside projects offer the following:
Online mentoring platform
Mentees and mentors have full access to Brightside’s safe, secure online mentoring platform, allowing them to communicate whenever and wherever is most convenient to them. The platform also features e-learning activities and articles from Bright Knowledge, Brightside’s bank of resources on careers, education and student life.
All our mentors hold an enhanced DBS check, all messages pass through filters to screen for inappropriate content, and are moderated by NSPCC-trained co-ordinators.
Training and co-ordination
Mentors and mentees will receive training from Brightside, and you will be assigned a Brightside co-ordinator for full support throughout the project. We design a mentoring schedule giving mentors key topics to discuss with their mentees.
Brightside’s impact management process uses robust evaluation frameworks to collect qualitative and quantitative data. This can be presented in impact reports tailored to the reporting needs of our partners.

After seeing how high achieving my mentor was, I declined the university offers I had and stayed on at sixth form to improve my grades and hopefully get into a Russell Group University. I have just completed an undergraduate Psychology degree at University of Manchester and will soon be moving to Amsterdam, to pursue a Masters in Organisational Psychology. If it wasn't for my mentor, I would probably have gone to a different university, done a different degree and missed out on some amazing opportunities.
